Hi, thankyou for the most stunning meal - the food was just fantastic, the amount of work it must have taken is one thing, but to produce so many dishes, all with the flavours just spot on, so well balanced and delicious, all cooked to perfection is just - words fail me - a true feat of brilliance.  The smells were delicious before we got to the kitchen, but when we got round the corner and actually saw it all laid out, the colours, the variety, the amount of food was really stunning.  You have surpassed yourself.  I know i especially like thai food but i really think this must have been one of your best productions ever.  must stop writing now before i start dribbling.  Thankyou again to you both - vera was brilliant too - she seemed to be everywhere, greeting people, keeping the flow of clean dishes and utensils in the kitchen going, loading the dishwasher, serving drinks, smiling and chatting and relaxed throughout as if it was all quite normal!  You are both amazing, thankyou, xbev

Vera's birthday

Vera's birthday party again I had to feed the starving hordes again, this year she wanted Thai food.
Realy great I have only just started to cook Thai food & here in Cornwall you cant get most of the things you need, good old internet found a place on the Wirral called RaanThai orderd things Wednesday morning arrived Thursday morning that well packed the frozen produce was still frozen.
I could have done with some sunshine here yesterday would have used outdoor kitchen. It seemed to go Ok though nothing much left for lunch & no visit from the coroner this morning so assume all are still alive & well.
made all the sauces & curry pastes with fresh ingredients, a lot of work but I think it was worth it
now the menu Golden baskets.Thai fish cakes, barbecued pork spare ribs, hot & sour soup with sea food, spicy sliced steak, quail egg salad with prawns, garlic prawns, sea food with chillies, panaeng chicken curry, red curry with duck & lychees, stir fried mixed veg, fried egg noodles, jasmine rice, sesseme toast, satay chicken& peanut sauce, lots of dips & some ham & chicken for those that wont try strange things. The soup was made with all kinds of fish & shell fish including Fish balls & blue swimming crabs
next year it will be cheese ham & mustard sandwiches I hope

how to roast a pig

I have been busy in the back garden recently, building an outside kitchen. I had this mad idea to do a hog roast for my birthday,[ hence the title ].
those that have seen my back garden will know that garden is not realy the best word to describe it, lunar landscape would be more apt, anyway I wanted a BBQ pit a smoker, a sink with hot & cold water,& a gas hob,you know the usual things you find in any back garden. The first part was building the kitchen, then as the garden was the remains of an old barn complex all concrete at differant levels ,a retaining granite wall as the garden is 3ft higher than the house floor with over a foot slope from right to left looking from the house, & the same from the back to the front.
This left a 15ft by 4ft by 3ft deep hole to fill, part is taken up with a coalbunker the rest with whatever was at hand, then 5 cubic mtrs of redimix concrete got the garden level in time for the party.I am going to lay sandstone slabs but as I could not have sealed them in time for the party I will do that later.
the party went realy well appart from the weather it was wet & windy, not good for a BBQ, so we put up a roof over the kitchen area, but I think everyone enjoyed the pig on a stick all 109 lbs of it, as there was not much left on Sunday morning, it was realy nice, we got it from lower treeve farm on the A30 lands end road. if you are in this area I recomend going there [01736 810100] I dont seem to have many pics of the party but I will put them on anyway.and pics of the kitchen as it went along.

Trewoofe

This is for those that keep asking what the garden is like at Trewoofe [ pronounced Trove]
There is  a 400 year old mill leat running through the garden, that takes an awful lot of work to keep flowing. It is not so bad since the new owners of Clapper mill do a lot of the work on it.
The album is mostly general views of the garden with just a few individual plant pics thrown in
It is open to the public on Wed & sun 2 till 5 on June & Sun 2 till 5 in July. It is well worth a visit if you are in West Cornwall

Tempus Fugit or words to that efect

It is nearly Veras birthday again I am not sure what to do this year , so I am thinking Fish & fowl that means I will have to stand on that cold windy beach to catch a few bass the fowl will be easy as there is a good selection in the freezer.
No doubt she will invite some vegitarians again.I am more used to cooking them Black Sheep than cooking for them, still it's her birthday not mine.I am going to try my hand at sushi, this year as I did not manage to make any of her friends ill with last years Chinese food.Just thought I would mention that the brown dog Billy died last year aged 16 years 6 months. we now have 2 long haired miniture dachshund puppies to keep Annabell company if you are interested Denny's page is http/danny-the-dackel.spaces.live.com
I will upload pics of them soon.
